Vintage is in…..well was it ever really out? I will say, I’m seeing more and more requests from clients asking for antique furniture, heirloom pieces, vintage rugs, and found objects to be used in their designs. I can’t tell you how happy this makes me as I just love going antiquing! If you’re looking to add character to especially a new home build or renovation, adding vintage items can really help!

Here are 4 ways to incorporate old with the new:

1. Vintage Rugs

Vintage rugs are a great way to add unique style to a space, and they work in every room. Turkish rugs, Kilim rugs, Persian style - they all give a sense of timeless style. Here’s a few of Sophia Fain Interiors’ designs using vintage rugs from Twosistersrugs.com:

2. Found objects

Found objects can be anything that have the handmade look. Objects like dough bowls, ceramic vases, brass candlesticks, pottery pieces, etc. make great shelf decor and add a textural element. Below are some items that would work on any dining table, kitchen counter, or coffee table! Click to shop.

3. Vintage Artwork

Your local antique stores are great sources for vintage artwork. I try to use vintage art in almost every design. Depending on my client’s budget, that may mean we use vintage-looking prints from etsy or the real deal. Below are some examples of where I’ve used unique art to make a statement.

4. Antique Furniture

Grandma’s old pieces that she gave to you are back in style! Yes, you do want to keep them and display them proudly! Antiques ground a room and give an old world feel. Now you can repurpose an old piano as a console table (see the Rustic Italian Client Home) , use an old sewing machine table as a coffee station (see how we did that in the Vintage Hopper Home, or use an antique bench in your entryway (see the Fain Home).
