Vintage Boho Guest Bedroom Makeover

When all your kids grow up and move away, that’s when it’s finally time to create a beautiful guest bedroom! That’s exactly what happened for this client (my sweet Mom). I heard this great advice recently that said make sure you spend a night in your guest room so you notice things you still need. For instance, the WiFi password on a cute notecard, extra bed pillows, reading lamps, and of course a relaxing sitting area for your guest to escape to! My mom wanted a cozy and quiet space for guests to stay while still keeping the vintage boho vibe she so loves.

However, this is how we started out….not cozy or boho. The bed was directly under the window, which left no other room for a sitting area. The walls were already painted white, but the curtains made the window look small and short.

First thing we did was move the bed to the left hand wall, buy new solid wood curtain rods with distressed finish that extended past the window, and hang velvet-lined blackout drapes all the way from ceiling to floor. These curtains are super soft and beautiful! We have them in the Boho Haven Client’s bedroom too and love them!

The only piece we had to work around was the one-of-a-kind art for above the bed that the client bought years ago and wanted to use. This vintage look Coca Cola canvas was what we based the whole room on. The bed itself is a king size upholstered bed with nailheads that went great with the art. The client insisted on a comfortable headboard for her guests. The bedding is a luxurious down comforter with a natural lamb fur blanket made by Sugarboo & Co. at the foot of the bed. We added these great (and cheap) rattan wall sconces that plug-in and extend over the bed for reading. The end tables from Wayfair were the perfect fit with their pedestal base and medium wood tone. To make them kid-friendly, we had glass cut for both tops to protect the wood from staining. We kept the end table decor very simple with floating brass picture frames, hand-made pottery, and a vase from The Refined Table with pampas grass.

My favorite part of the room is actually the FUN hanging swing from Anthropologie that is now the favorite reading nook of all the client’s grandkids (check out the pic below)! This swing is surprisingly comfortable once we added cozy blankets and pillows.

Of course, no bedroom is complete without a rug. And what a rug this is! This vintage beauty from Two Sister’s Rugs is just gorgeous in here! It balances the darker Coca Cola sign and bronze armed sconces on the left side of the room with now the darker coloring in the rug. I’m a huge fan of authentic vintage rugs as they are unique and durable. We just put a pretty vintage rug in a little girl’s room in The Fain Home that added so much character!
